A-Rod To Meet With MLB Officials In Steroids Investigation Friday
New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez will meet with Major League Baseball investigators on Friday, as the probe into his alleged involvement with the Miami-based Biogenesis clinic suspected of supplying performance-enhancing drugs to several MLB players intensifies.
According to USA Today Sports, Rodriguez’s interview is one of the final steps being taken by investigators before they seek to impose suspensions on him and fellow former league MVP Ryan Braun that could be for as long as 100 games each.
Biogenesis is suspected of providing PEDs to at least 20 players over the last several years. Much of that belief stems from interviews conducted with clinic founder Anthony Bosch, who agreed last month to cooperate with the investigation.
Earlier this week, ESPN reported Braun refused to answer questions from investigators during a June 29 encounter. Any suspensions are not expected to be formally announced until after the All-Star break, and very likely would be appealed.
MLB spokesman Patrick Courtney on Tuesday told USA TODAY Sports that the league remained "in the midst of an active investigation" and that "no decisions have been made" regarding suspensions.
Rodriguez remains on a minor-league rehab assignment from the hip surgery he went underwent several months ago.
