Peyton Manning News: Brock Osweiler Not Experienced Enough To Experiment With Benching 'The Sherrif'

The Denver Broncos have dealt with a lot of change this offseason. They have seen key contributors from last season leave the team, and they are going through the process of adapting to a new coaching staff's rules and strategic approach. None of it is necessarily bad, but it is an adjustment.

The team may also have to deal with more adjustments during the season, and they may not be as much of a good thing, according to the Coloradoan. New head coach Gary Kubiak has openly discussed the idea of resting star quarterback Peyton Manning during games this fall in order to keep him healthy, but that may not be a wise choice.

If the team wants to rest Manning during preseason and training camp, then that makes total sense. Resting him when the games count, however, could prove to be a disaster. The team has an unproven backup in Brock Osweiler, and while they may want to see what he can do, they should also focus on winning the Super Bowl.

Eagles Didn't Sign Murray To Weaken Dallas

Manning is arguably the smartest player to ever step onto a football field. He recognizes every defense, he sees every shift, and he always has his teammates set up for success with the adjustments he calls out at the line of scrimmage.

Manning also uses his play-calling prowess to keep opposing defenses off-balance, and he gets the offense into a rhythm throughout the game.

Resting Manning for stretches could derail all of that. Manning may lose his feel for how the team is playing if he sits on the sideline. Worse, he could open himself up to being fooled by the defense if they make some adjustments during one of Osweiler's series.

If the past few years are any indication, then the Broncos will have more than a few games that are not all that close. The team can easily bench Manning during the fourth quarters of those games and achieve the desired effect. What they cannot afford to do is potentially lose winnable games because they did not have their best player on the field sometimes.
