PGA Tour Leaderboard: Valero Texas Open Day 1 Recap, Charley Hoffman Takes Lead

The first day of the 2015 Valero Texas Open came to a close on Thursday, with Charley Hoffman taking a one-stroke lead.

Arnold Palmer: 'Tiger Woods Has to Regain Confidence'

Aaron Baddeley sits one stroke behind. Phil Mickelson, Ryan Palmer and Max Homa round out the top five. Below is recap of the first day's events (via PGA Tour).

What They're Saying

Matt Kuchar: "It was really challenging, really difficult. I'm going to kind of enjoy sitting back and watching some guys try to manage today's afternoon forecast and the wind and the conditions. It was really hard. You can't shoot a decent number in these conditions without being in pretty good control of what's going on. That said, I also had some things go my way."

Withdrawals

With the Masters two weeks away, a slew of participants decided to withdraw from the Texas Open for precautionary reasons. Graeme McDowell departed after just nine holes with a nagging ankle injury. Two-time PGA Tour winner Sang-Moon Bae (back) and Colt Knost (wrist) also pulled out. Mike Weir (wrist) and Alex Cejka (back) withdrew prior to the first round.
