PGA Tour Leaderboard: Valero Texas Open Preview, Favorites and Predictions

Now, there's work to be done on the fairways.

Matt Every, Davis Love III, Phil Mickelson and a slew of other participants have descended onto TPC San Antonio in hopes of claiming the $6.2 million purse.

The Favorites

Jimmy Walker: A native Texan, Walker has already enjoyed success in 2015, winning the Sony Open in Hawaii by a full nine strokes. With the Valero Texas Open taking place in his backyard, look for the 36-year-old to thrive.

Ryan Palmer: In keeping with the Texan theme, look for Palmer's low-ball stroke to be a key factor at TPC San Antonio. Blustery conditions often play a role at the course, giving the 38-year-old a tactical edge.

Jordan Spieth: One more Texan for good measure. Like Walker, Spieth also enjoyed success in 2015, claiming the Valspar Championship in a playoff. The 21-year-old continues to ascend in the world rankings and will attempt to solidify his place on the tour with a victory on his home soil.

Prediction

Confidence is sky-high for Spieth, making him the odds-on favorite to win the Texas Open.

"I feel better going in than I did last year," he said in an interview with PGATour.com. "Last year at this point, I'd actually had a really good season. I had chances to close tournaments out early in the year, but this year I feel better having closed the [Valspar Championship] out. I also missed the cut in Houston last year, so I went in with some questions, I guess, right off an early finish."
