Aaron Hernandez Update: Tim Tebow Tried To Break Up 2007 Florida Bar Fight

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Tim Tebow once tried to stop Aaron Hernandez from attacking a man when he was visiting Florida as an incoming freshmen athlete.

The newspaper reports that while several Florida players were at The Swamp bar in 2007 Hernandez got into a dispute with bar employee Michael Taphorn over an unpaid bill. As the argument persisted, Hernandez allegedly ended up striking the man on the side of the head, resulting in a ruptured ear drum.

The Journal obtained a copy of the police report which asserts that Tebow tried to make peace and defuse the situation. The newspaper also reports that when police arrived Hernandez was gone and officers ended up interviewing Tebow and other players.

“Tebow stated that he witnessed the dispute,” the officer wrote, according to The Journal. “Tebow stated that he went over to try to help resolve the conflict,” urging Hernandez to leave peacefully.

The Journal reports that Tebow then tried to make arrangements to pay the bill. Two hours later, another officer found Hernandez and spoke with him about the incident, during which time Tebow was also on hand.

Hernandez was only 17 at the time of the incident and even though no arrests were made, police initially recommended that felony assault charges be filed.

Then Florida coach Urban Meyer has refused to comment on the situation, according to The Journal.
