The New York Giants certainly appear to have selected the most exciting player in the 2014 draft in Odell Beckham Jr. He took the league by storm with his prolific receiving numbers and acrobatic catches. But might he have a new quarterback throwing him the football following the 2015 season?
Broncos Already Looking Ahead To Post-Manning Years?
Manning has had an up-and-down career to this point. He has two Super Bowl titles, although many would argue that the defense was primarily responsible for both of them, and he seemingly alternates good and bad years. He was awful in 2013, but he had a bounce-back year last season. Now, he is looking to earn an extension, and it is believed that he wants a bigger deal than Ben Roethlisberger, who, like Manning, was part of the 2004 draft class.
According to NFL.com, the Giants are not excited about the prospect of paying Eli that kind of money. The team does not necessarily want to part ways with Manning at this time, but it appears that they are comfortable letting him play out the final year of his current contract, knowing that they can use the franchise tag on him in 2016 if necessary.
More Early NFL Retirements Looming? Math Genius Worried About Future
Manning did have one of the best statistical seasons of his career in 2014, but he still has numerous seasons under his belt when he ranked at or near the top of the league in interceptions thrown, and last year's dynamic play still did not translate into a playoff berth for the Giants.
There is no word on whether Manning has any potential destinations in mind if he and the team cannot agree on a long-term deal at some point.
