Joe Lefeged Arrested: Indianapolis Colts Safety Faces Multiple Gun Charges After Incident in Washington

Indianapolis Colts safety Joe Lefeged is facing multiple gun-charges after being arrested during a traffic stop in Washington early Saturday.

According to ESPN, Lefeged was a passenger in a vehicle police initially pulled over for speeding where the driver tried to flee the scene.  D.C. police spokesperson Araz Alali told ESPN the gun was found after a search of the vehicle.

The website also reports authorities believe the gun belongs to Lefeged and his charges include carrying a pistol without a license and possession of an unregistered firearm and ammunition.

Lefeged's arrest is yet another black eye for the NFL after former New England Patriots star tight end Aaron Hernandez was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the execution-style slaying of 27-year-old semi-pro football Odin Lloyd.

Hernandez, 23, remains jailed without bail and now has also been implicated in another, unrelated 2012 double homicide.  Not only have the Patriots severed ties with their one-time star player, team officials are offering fans the chance to trade in all Hernandez jerseys for those of other Patriot players.

In addition, former Cleveland Browns rookie Ausar Walcott was charged with attempted murder this week after a fight he was involved in outside a New Jersey bar left a man critically injured.

Lefeged, 25, is from nearby Germantown, a Washington suburb. He and 23-year-old Timothy Wilson were both due in D.C. Superior Court later Saturday.
