The WWE has heavily advertised Sheamus' return, but there is a lot of mystery surrounding "The Celtic Warrior's" role when he makes his comeback.
Brock Lesnar and Vince McMahon Still Clashing Over Contract Issues
There has been a lot of talk of turning Sheamus heel upon his return and there have also been rumors that he may be held off of television until WrestleMania 31.
While Sheamus could be earmarked for the 2nd Annual Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, it is possible that he will be the eighth participant in the Ladder Match for the Intercontinental Championship.
Dolph Ziggler Was 'Pissed' At Royal Rumble Match, Hypes WrestleMania 31
The WWE teased a match between disgruntled Superstars Daniel Bryan and Dolph Ziggler at WrestleMania 31 after the Royal Rumble, but things changed following "The Beard's" loss to Roman Reigns at Fastlane last month in Memphis.
Now, Bryan and Ziggler will join Intercontinental Champion Bad News Barrett, Dean Ambrose, Luke Harper, Stardust and R-Truth in a Ladder Match for the gold.
It seems likely that Sheamus will also be added to the match, possibly as a surprise at the event itself on March 29 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.
Months back, there were rumors that Sheamus would face Bryan in a singles bout at WrestleMania, but the WWE changed things around. Despite this, it seems as though "The Celtic Warrior's" role at the "Show of Shows" should include Bryan and involve the Ladder Match.
Sheamus hasn't been seen since he dropped the United States Championship to Rusev in November and was subsequently written off of television after an attack from the mighty Russian and Mark Henry.
Sheamus is now ready to return after undergoing surgery on an unknown ailment, and the WWE has already started releasing vignettes about his impending comeback to the squared circle.
The WWE may have big plans for Sheamus and despite him getting beaten down by two villains last time he was seen, rumor has it he is set to come back as a heel.
It is logical that the WWE could have Sheamus win the Ladder Match and then feud with Bryan as a way to make the Intercontinental Championship seem relevant with a long-term feud and keep Bryan out of the main event title picture, which the company is wont to do.
It's merely speculation, but with the WWE hyping Sheamus' comeback and nothing yet confirmed for him, he could very well leave Levi's Stadium with some gold.
The WWE is also using Bryan as a way to build up SmackDown on Thursday nights so it could be a big time feud that keeps the Blue Brand relevant as well.
These two Superstars met twice at WrestleMania in the past.
Sheamus and Bryan fought to a no-contest in 2011 at WrestleMania XXVII in a Lumberjack Match while the "Celtic Warrior" topped "The Beard" in 2012 at WrestleMania XXVIII in an 18-second match for the World Heavyweight Championship.
Sheamus may escape WrestleMania 31 with the Intercontinental Championship and renew his rivalry with Bryan.
