New England Patriots star tight end Aaron Hernandez has been officially taken into custody in connection with the execution-styled killing of associate Odin Lloyd, according to ESPN

The website reports Hernandez was arrested at his North Attleboro home earlier this morning. Wearing a white V-neck T-shirt, red shorts and black sneakers, Hernandez was led out of his home around 9 a.m. in handcuffs and placed in a police cruiser.

At the very least, he’s expected to be charged with obstruction of justice. Police have previously reported that Hernandez’s home security system had been intentionally smashed and his cell phone also smashed to pieces when they initially sought to speak with him about the crime.

Hernandez and Lloyd, along with at least two other men, were all seen drinking together at a local bar on the night of the murder. Witnesses also told police the men all left together.

Lloyd’s body was found just hours later not far from Hernandez’s mansion and near a rented vehicle registered to him. Just earlier this week, Hernandez’s attorney blasted the media for its portrayal of his client and what he seemed to think was a rush to judgment.

Police have indicated Hernandez and Lloyd had long known one another and that Lloyd was dating the sister of the mother of Hernandez’s child.

As the investigation plays out, the Patriots have banned Hernandez from all team facilities.
