Jameis Winston Draft Rumors: QB Files For Trademark on 'Famous Jameis' Nickname [VIDEO]

Jameis Winston is hoping to find fame and fortune in the NFL, but ahead of the draft in April he has already taken strides to ensure the fame part comes to fruition as he is looking to trademark his "Famous Jameis" nickname.

According to ESPN, Winston is looking to patent the nickname, which was bestowed upon him during an impressive two-year run at Florida State University under center.

"We have begun taking steps to protect our client and his intellectual property rights," said Russ Spielman, a partner of The Legacy Agency, which represents Winston, according to ESPN. "Right now, his sole focus is on football. We hope to utilize this way down the line."

Winston's nickname began to gain notoriety in the 2013 campaign when the team went unbeaten and won a national championship, with Winston also going on to win the Heisman Trophy.

At the time, Winston downplayed the nickname to the Palm Beach Post.

"When people call me Famous Jameis, I know I'm not famous -- our team is famous," Winston told the publication. "That stuff comes with winning. As long as we keep winning, it will come up."

Winston is projected to go first overall in the 2015 NFL Draft when it takes place from Thursday, April 30-Saturday, May 2. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers own the No. 1 overall pick.

Winston went 305-for-467 (65.3 percent) for 3,907 yards last season at Florida State with 25 touchdowns and 18 interceptions.

Overall in his two years there, Winston went 562-for-851 (66 percent) for 7,964 yards with 65 scores and 28 picks.

Now, "Famous Jameis" is looking to find fame in the NFL.
