Tiger Woods Struggles Explained: Ex-Caddy Says Former No. 1 Choosing Fatherhood Over Golf [VIDEO]

It's not that Tiger Woods can't return to being the best golfer in the world, his former caddy says, it's just that he doesn't want to.

Sean Foley, Woods' swing coach through last season, said that he believes his former employer can elevate his game to No. 1 status anytime he wants.

Tiger Woods' Dominance in 2000 due to equipment, rather than skill?

"He's Tiger Woods. If he wants to, he will. It's that simple," Foley told the Toronto Sun.

Begging the question: If it's so simple, why doesn't he? Surely, Woods doesn't want to continue to shoot 82s, as he did during a round at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Or finish last in his own World Hero's Challenge, as he did in December.

Tiger Woods' five wins in 2013 due to muscle memory instead of recovering his game?

Woods recently said in an interview with the New York Post that he practices far less than he did when he was on top of the golf world 10 years ago.

"I would say I practice much less now,'' Woods said told the Post asked how much he works now compared to 10 or so years ago. "I want to spend as much time as I can with my kids. I have split custody, so when I'm home, I want to be home with them, take them to a soccer game or to school or to activities. I'm their dad."

So to Foley, the reasons Woods isn't, well, Woods are simple.

"The golf world doesn't want that, but he's my friend, and to watch him with his kids, he's easily one of the most patient fathers I have ever seen," Foley told the Sun.

"If you win a tournament, it feels good, but you go home and your kid takes a bee-line at you and jumps in your arms, that just feels better. So I'm sure, as we all get older, we all have this kind of discussion with ourselves. And I'm sure he's had it."

Which Foley says allows the once ultra-competitive Woods to be content with his rounds of 82.

"Compared to when I started working with him, I'd say he's in a far better place with (his children)," he said. "So my hat's off to him because I think he's seeing things for how they matter, and if that upsets the golf world, then so be it."
