Philadelphia Eagles Rumors: Josh Gordon For Nick Foles Trade Was Declined By Philly?

The Cleveland Browns and the Philadelphia Eagles are both hoping to make improvements heading into the 2015 season after being in the playoff hunt for much of 2014 before eventually falling short. Now, reports have emerged that the two teams nearly exchanged key players more than a year ago.

According to ESPN, the two sides discussed trading Josh Gordon for Nick Foles back at the start of the 2013 season. Of course, that was the year that both Foles and Gordon broke out, with Gordon proving to be one of the best wideouts in the league, and Foles setting a league record by posting a 27-2 touchdown to interception ratio.

Things did not go quite the same this past season, however. Gordon was once again in trouble with his issues for failing drug tests (and he is again). Foles, meanwhile, came back to earth and made a lot of mistakes in 2014 before eventually suffering a season-ending injury.

At the time of the alleged trade talks, Foles had just lost the starting quarterback battle during training camp, and Gordon was facing a two-game suspension to start the season.

The Eagles obviously turned down the trade offer, apparently because of a combination of Foles' potential and organizational concerns about Gordon.

Now, Gordon will face a season-long suspension for 2015 after once again failing a drug test, and Foles is currently in line to be the Eagles' starting quarterback. However, if the team decides they want to trade up to draft a quarterback - as has been rumored about Marcus Mariota - then the team will almost certainly move Foles via trade.
