Former WNBA star and Olympic gold medalist Chamique Holdsclaw pleaded guilty on Friday to assaulting her ex-girlfriend and will serve three years’ probation, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
Holdsclaw, 35, will not be required to serve any jail time, but must also pay $3,000 in restitution, serve 120 hours of community service and attend anger management classes, according to the Journal-Constitution. She also agreed to avoid former girlfriend and victim Jennifer Lacy.
The case stems from a November incident earlier this year in which the paper reported Holdsclaw smashed out the windows of Lacy’s SUV and fired a gun at her fleeing vehicle.
In addition to two counts of aggravated assault, Holdsclaw also pled guilty to first-degree criminal damage, two counts of second-degree criminal damage and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Holdsclaw played 12 WNBA seasons, retiring at the end of the 2010 campaign. More recently, she revealed in her biography she suffers from depression and attempted suicide in 2006 while a member of the Los Angeles Sparks.
As part of a specific stipulation to the community service she must now perform, Holdsclaw will “speak with youth about depression, overcoming adversity and the consequences of one’s actions,” Atlanta District Attorney Paul Howard told the Journal-Constitution.
The 30-year-old Lacy remains a member of the WNBA's Tulsa Shock.
