Derek Jeter Rumors: Retired Yankee Setting Sights On Owning An MLB or NFL Franchise? [VIDEO]

For the first time in decades, Derek Jeter enters the spring without having to prepare mentally and physically for the rigors of a baseball season. Jeter retired last year and received a highly-publicized farewell tour, and he is all but guaranteed to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer.

The Hall of Fame will not come calling for another five years, however, and Jeter will surely have a lot going on in the meantime. His girlfriend, Hannah Davis, recently landed the cover of the 2015 Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, but that is far from the only thing on Jeter's radar.

Jeter has a book coming out called Derek Jeter's Ultimate Baseball Guide 2015. The book is being released through Simon & Schuster, and it is something that every baseball fan can enjoy, as it is full of facts and trivia about the MLB and every team, and it even includes handwritten notes by Jeter himself.

The prize fish that Jeter may be chasing, however, is a franchise of his own. Jeter has previously expressed interest in owning a major league franchise, and he is also interested in owning an NFL franchise too. In fact, Jeter reportedly explored purchasing a share of the Buffalo Bills when the team was for sale last year.

Rumors have also circulated about Jeter having an interest in the Miami Marlins in the past few months. While he earned a substantial amount of money during his career from salary and endorsements, he never made the kind of dough that would allow him to be anything other than a minority partner for an NFL team.

He could, however, be the controlling owner if he wanted to buy the right baseball team, a category that the struggling Marlins certainly fall into. Jeter has a home in Tampa and is known to be fond of Florida. He also toured the Marlins' stadium back in December. Only he knows for sure if it was a scouting trip, but look for Jeter to continue weighing the options of buying a sports franchise now that he can enjoy retirement.
