The woman claiming that rap star Kanye West cheated on pregnant girlfriend Kim Kardashian with her was paid as much as $20,000 for her story, according to The New York Daily News.
In the current issue of Star Magazine, 24-year-old Leyla Ghobadi claims her and the father of Kardashian’s soon-to-be child hooked up on at least two different occasions in 2012.
Kardashian, who was infamously was married to NBA star Kris Humphries for less than three-months before taking up with West, is expecting the couple’s first child sometime over the summer.
According to the Daily News, Star editor James Heidenry confirms that Ghobadi was paid for her story, though many are now raising questions about its validity. Heidenry does contend, however, that the numbers given for what she was actually paid are “way out of the ballpark.”
In publishing the story, the Daily News reports Star editors even bypassed their customary practice of giving such subjects lie detector tests first. “We didn’t think it was necessary in this case,” Heidenry told the paper.
Ghobadi contends the pair met at a West concert in Atlantic City last year after he observed her dancing to one of his hit songs. The next night she claims they met at a club and ended the night having sex.
Reps for Kardashian have vehemently denied the claims. They admit that West did take a backstage picture with Ghobadi that night, but point out he also did so with countless other fans as well. In the end, they insist, he left the venue with Kardashian.
When a Daily News reporter asked Heidenry if he still believes the story he responded: “I’d rather not answer that question. To be honest, if you read that story you know as much as I do. I asked that question to our reporters who worked on it and they believe that it’s valid.”
