DeSean Jackson: Dad Had Dogs Chase Him To Make Him Faster

Speedy Philadelphia Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson claims when he was a child his father would have a dog he was afraid of chase him through the neighborhood in an effort to increase his speed.

Over the years, Jackson has openly talked about the way his father pushed him hard in hopes of his son becoming a professional athlete. In his new documentary, DeSean Jackson: Making of a Father’s Dream, he touches upon that example and several others.

Appearing on the Jim Rome Show earlier this week, Jackson told the host “at times he pushed me over and beyond… if child services would have seen him, they probably would have taken him to jail because of the things he used to make me do.”

Jackson also told Rome the documentary is filmed over a 17-year period and the instances where his father would first tie a rope with a dangling tennis ball to it, then have a relative’s dog he was trek him through the park still stick with him most.

“He was like, ‘every time that dog catches you, you’re not going to eat,’” Jackson told Rome. “I used to be running through the park trying to get away. I was terrified. He only probably got me a couple of times.”

Jackson told Rome his father never got to see the documentary, passing away in 2009 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
