Skydiving in Florida: 87-Year-Old Woman Goes On Jump With Grandsons, 'It Wasn't Scary At All'

Lorraine Wurtzel wanted to give her grandsons the thrill of a lifetime for their birthday.

Wurtzel, 87, from Boynton Beach, Fla., surprised her grandkids with a skydiving trip and added to the fun by promising to do the jump with them.

Wurtzel, who has gone bungee jumping in the past, took the trip with her grandsons in January because it's something that she always wanted to do.

"I like the feeling of the air hitting me, and free space, and being one with the universe," Wurtzel told The Palm Beach Post. "It wasn't scary at all."

According to the publication, Brandon and Justin Harris visited Wurtzel and she had the trip planned all along, but didn't tell them about it until the next day.

On Jan. 16, the trio took the trip to Skydive Sebastian on Airport Drive West in Sebastian, Fla. and all three of them took the plunge.

Justin, 28, and Brandon, 25, jumped out first and grandma Wurtzel followed soon after.

"And there's a free fall, you just fall," Wurtzel said of the experience. "For me, it was like whoa! But then the surprise is all of a sudden the parachute opens up and you shoot up in the air."

On the ground waiting for them was Wurtzel's husband Murray Dinsfriend, who Wurtzel said wouldn't be willing to jump.

Overall, it was a good experience for Wurtzel.

"The guy that took care of me was wonderful and the landing was easy," she told the paper.

After a fun and wild day with her grandsons, Wurtzel said she is open to skydive again and she may very well find more thrill-seeking activities to do.
