Michael Jordan, Patrick Ewing Reunion Official, Former Knick Joins Charlotte's Staff

Patrick Ewing has officially joined the Charlotte Bobcats coaching staff  as an associate head coach, according to Yahoo! Sports.

The move reunites Ewing with longtime friend and Bobcats owner Michael Jordan. The two both starred on the 1992 Dream Team and in the 1996 animated cult film “Space Jam.”

Ewing also has close ties to new Bobcats coach Steve Clifford, as both previously worked together as assistants in Houston and Orlando. During his time in Orlando, Ewing was largely credited with helping Dwight Howard round his game into form.

Yahoo! also reports that Ewing was agressively being pursued by just hired Sacramento Kings coach Mike Malone for a spot on his staff. The Hall of Fame center sat out last season, but prior to that worked eight seasons as an NBA assistant, four each with the Magic and Rockets.

Ewing also interviewed for the Bobcats' head-coaching job in 2012 that ultimately went to the now fired Mike Dunlap.

In 2011, he was also a top candidate for the Detroit Pistons head coaching job. In Charlotte, Ewing is expected to assume most of the responsibility for working with the team’s young frontcourt of Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Byron Mullens, Bismack Biyombo and Tyrus Thomas.
