Base Jumping Dog [VIDEO]: 'Whisper' The Dog Goes Base Jumping In Wing Suit

They say that every dog has its day and that was true for "Whisper" the base jumping pet of two thrill-seeking owners.

Dean S. Potter and his girlfriend Jen told Helenair.com that they live in Yosemite National Park and were looking to give their dog Whisper a thrill by having him base jump.

Potter told the publication that he is a "climber, line walker, and human-body-flyer."

In this video, Potter and Jen safely strapped Whisper into a parachute backpack complete with a wing suit and goggles and the dog then takes flight from a very precarious peak.

After a little bit of flying, Potter pulled the chute and he and Whisper landed safely on the ground where Jen was waiting for them.

Potter wrote on his website, Deanspotter.com, that flying is a spiritual experience.

"These mountain arts bring me peace," Potter wrote on the website, "and I play in the void and come closer to understanding interdependence. Death consequence reduces lesser motivations to the necessity, breath."

Potter explains in the video, which is a trailer for When Dogs Fly, that a fantasy has led to this moment.

"First it was just this fantasy, this fairytale where nothing could go wrong," Potter explains in the beginning of the video. "But life isn't that easy and that straightforward. First you have the vision and then you make it possible. The joy we have is just off the charts. We love it up there."

Potter cautions that he thought there could be some problems initially, but was sure everything would go as planned.

"Will this joy lead to harm or death?" Potter asks. "Something almost made me crumble when I started putting the dog on my back. Nothing's gonna happen to her. I'm ready, I'm not gonna blow this flight. Whisper is connected with 20,000 pounds of straps. We're good."

After they land safely, Potter reflects on the mission that he took with Whisper.

"I know the truth now, I know there's more than that fantasy of like, 'Oh we'll fly together,' there is also, 'Oh, we could die together.' What happens when dogs fly? It sure wasn't what I thought it was gonna be. It was the reality of it -- that's what life is. There's the fantasy and then there's the actuality."
