Rey Mysterio has been in a lengthy contract dispute with the WWE, but the former World Heavyweight Champion may be on his way out of the company.

According to Wrestlingheadlines.com, Mysterio's negotiations with the WWE are drawing to a close and it is very likely that he will be done with the company soon and free to do what he wants.
Mysterio is highly expected to wrestle for Lucha Underground in a few months and he also reportedly has a number of signing appearances lined up as well. Promoters are waiting to announce his appearances until he is officially cleared of the WWE.

There are still some issues between the two sides, but according to the report, they are being worked out and Mysterio has release papers, but hasn't signed them due to the hold up.
Mysterio and the WWE have been in a dispute over his contract ever since Vince McMahon utilized a clause in the deal to extend the pact due to the fact that Mysterio missed significant time due to injury.
Mysterio was looking to get out of the WWE, but McMahon exercised the clause to try to keep him under contract so that he couldn't flee for another organization. Now, it seems as though the two sides have worked things out to amicably end their partnership.
Reports surfaced late last year that Mysterio had a handshake agreement with Triple H for the two sides to part ways, but the deal was broken up by McMahon.
Mysterio appeared in a vignette during AAA's TripleMania XXII event on Aug. 17 that aired on the same night as WWE's SummerSlam and he congratulated the promotion on 22 years of success.
Mysterio also told the fans he'd see them soon, likely hinting at his desire to jump ship from the WWE. The company then showed a #FreeRey graphic, likely hinting at his WWE dispute.
Mysterio, 39, hasn't appeared on WWE television in almost a year as his last match was against Bad News Barrett on the Monday Night RAW on April 7 that followed WrestleMania 31.
Mysterio is a one-time WWE Champion and two-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion and he won the Royal Rumble Match in 2006.
