Several people are reported injured after a gunman opened fire on the Santa Monica College campus, according to The Associated Press.

The school remains on lock down and police are confirming that several people, including the gunman, are injured, AP reported. The shooting reportedly took place in a campus building just before noon.

Santa Monica police Chief Rudy Flores told AP police arrived at the scene after receiving reports of a man on a street corner shooting at vehicles.

Flores noted President Barack Obama is about three miles away from the scene at a Democratic Party fundraiser. He was scheduled to deliver remarks around 12:30 p.m.

CBS Los Angeles also reported there are multiple victims, but the exact number remains unknown. Additional reports are a campus worker overheard dozens of gunshots and told authorities he saw students scrambling for safety. CBS later also reported some witnesses told police the man had at least several guns.

According to its website, Santa Monica College is a 2-year community college serving more than 30,000 students. AP reported where Obama was speaking is about a 10-minute drive from where the shooting took place.

Details remain sketchy as to if and when the President was made aware of the incident.
