Denver Nuggets Rumors: Ty Lawson Arrested on Potential DUI

The Denver Nuggets' season to forget has just gotten even worse.

The team's star point guard Ty Lawson was reportedly arrested early Friday morning on charges of suspicion of driving under the influence, speeding, and careless driving after police pulled him over for going 61 mph in a 35 mph zone.

According to TMZ Sports, Lawson smelled of alcohol and was exhibiting slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and a lack of balance. Officers administered a field sobriety test, which Lawson promptly failed.

After being booked, Lawson was released under undisclosed terms later on Friday.

"We have been made aware of an incident involving Ty Lawson early this morning," Denver Nuggets GM and Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Tim Connelly said in a statement, "Per team policy and out of respect for the legal process, we will have no further comment at this time."

Brian Shaw Canceling Morning Shootarounds

Lawson's arrest for drinking and driving is ironic in at least one sense for Denver. The team head coach Brian Shaw made headlines earlier this month when he stated that he was canceling morning shootarounds for the rest of the season, at least in part to help his players better nurse their hangovers.

The point guard is averaging close to 17 points and 10 assists per game for the Nuggets this season.
