Maria Sharapova Engagement Update: Grigor Dimitrov Proposing at Australian Open Final Is 'Horrible' Idea [VIDEO]

A Grigor Dimitrov proposal to Maria Sharapova seems inevitable. How it will be done seems to be the big question.

One way it won't be done is on the court at the Australian Open final if Sharapova were to win.

Maria Sharapova's Brisbane title and Serena Williams' early struggles a sign that Williams' streak vs. Sharapova ending?

The Daily Mail reported that the No. 2 female tennis player in the world appeared on Channel Ten Network's The Project, an Australian television news program, and was asked whether she wanted Dimitrov to "hypothetically" propose in a private affair or make it a "public spectacle-type proposal," host Peter Helliar asked.

"Oh goodness," Sharapova said. "Yeah, I don't like spectacles at all."

That didn't deter Helliar from creating a picture that tennis fans would love - but Sharapova would absolutely hate:

"If you won the Australian Open this year, he (Dimitrov) might come onto the court ..."

"Oh, that'd be horrible!" Sharapova answered quickly, laughing while cutting Helliar off.

"Not your style?"

"That's never really been my style," she answered. "I prefer more private, intimate occasions."

Apparently, Sharapova will have to find her Australian Open motivation elsewhere. She added that she doesn't always enjoy watching Dimitrov play because she can see things from the fans seats that makes her wish she could just come down to the court and play the match herself.

"It's so nerve-wracking," she said, "It's worse watching than it is playing. I get really stressed."

Rumors of the 27-year-old Sharapova and the 23-year-old Dimitrov already getting engaged circled late last year when Sharapova started wearing a ring on her ring finger. Those rumors followed other rumors that the two had split.

Helliar pointed out that she didn't have any rings on her finger when she did the interview, but she did not make any comments about the nature of their relationship today. The two have been dating since 2012, according to sports.ndtv.com.

Sharapova will seek her second Australian Open title and sixth Grand Slam title when the 2015 tournament starts on Monday. Sharapova won the Australian Open in 2008.
