Usher, Justin Bieber Mentor Defends Pop Star

Superstar R &B singer and Cleveland Cavs minority-owner Usher is defending 16-year-old protégé Justin Bieber after a rash of questionable behavior, including reports of the teen recklessly driving in his exclusive California neighborhood.

Usher, who is also currently serving as a judge on the smash-hit reality show The Voice appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres Show where he told the host "I think all of us in some way have humble beginnings that pan out to be incredible and we hope that in his transition friends and family who helped him be who he is… come forward. I’m hoping he’ll continue to just mature.”

TMZ.com reported earlier this week, Bieber was allegedly involved in a confrontation with former NFL star Keyshawn Johnson on Memorial Day after he recklessly sped past his vehicle in his white Ferrari near both their gated community Calabasas homes without ever slowing down and stopping. An angry Johnson, who had his young child in the vehicle, then took the child home before setting out to confront Bieber.

And on Wednesday, MSN.com reported L.A. police were imploring Bieber to come into the station and set the record straight about what transpired after their repeated attempts to question him proved unsuccessful. “If you have nothing to hide, why not talk to us?” sheriff spokesman Steve Whitmore told MSN.com, alluding to claims Bieber has made through his representatives that he was not driving the vehicle.

However, reports are at least witnesses have placed the “Beauty and the Beat” singer behind the wheel and police are now seeking surveillance video and interviews with other potential witnesses for more clarity.

TMZ also reported that when Johnson arrived at Bieber’s home, the singer jumped out of his vehicle and scurried inside his home, refusing to open the door or come back out. This isn’t the first time Bieber has angered neighbors.

Police are now also considering whether or not to charge him for battery for allegedly spitting on a neighbor back in March after again being confronted over his driving.

During the interview, Usher told DeGeneres he still keeps in touch with his young pal. “We talk as much as possible,” he said. “Obviously, when I can be of help I do so.”
