Notre Dame Football Rumors: Everett Golson Transferring to LSU Tigers? [VIDEO]

Has Everett Golson played his last game in South Bend?

Just a week after the Fighting Irish's quarterback faced off against LSU in the Music City Bowl, Golson is now reportedly interested in joining Les Miles' Tigers squad, according to NOLA.com.

Golson is set to graduate from Notre Dame in May, but he retains a final year of football eligibility because of a redshirt 2013 season. The SEC lifted its ban on graduate student transfers in May 2014, so as long as Golson takes credits towards a graduate degree in Baton Rouge, he can play for the Tigers immediately next season.

Golson has struggled with academic eligibility issues in the past, however, so LSU will have to obtain a waiver from the conference's HQ if they want to bring him aboard.

If this is truly the end for Golson at Notre Dame, it was an up-and-down career but by all means a memorable one. Golson's high point came in 2012, when he led the Irish to an undefeated regular season and a berth in the BCS National Championship Game.

This season, however, Golson's play stagnated as he struggled mightily with turnovers during ND's 2-5 finish to end the year. Head coach Brian Kelly publicly backed his quarterback initially, saying Golson could be one of the best quarterbacks in the nation.

However, Golson's continued poor play led to him being benched in the middle of the team's regular season finale versus USC. Kelly refused to name Golson the starter for the Irish's bowl appearance, so he instead split snaps with freshman Malik Zaire throughout the team's 31-28 win over the Tigers.
