Michael Crabtree Torn Achilles, Could Miss Entire Season

San Francisco 49ers receiver Michael Crabtree suffered a torn Achilles tendon today during an organized preseason team workout.

According to USA Today, Crabtree is now scheduled for immediate surgery and may well be out for the entire season. Just last season, both Terrell Suggs and Da’Quan Bowers suffered similar injuries that forced them into missing most of the year.

After developing better chemistry with quarterback Collin Kaepernick, Crabtree, 25, was expected to emerge as the 49ers' No. 1 receiver this season. After struggling to live up to expectations over his first three seasons, Crabtree amassed a career high 85 catches, 1,105 yards and nine touchdowns last season.

Even though they traded for all-pro wideout Anquan Boldn during the offseason, the Niners may now find themselves in the market for another receiver. According to ESPN, the team may now even be open to re-signing veteran Randy Moss, who hasn’t yet officially retired and just two months ago tweeted he “wished he could’ve finished the job.”

The Niners advanced all the way to the Super Bowl last season before bowing to the Ray Lewis inspired Baltimore Ravens. Crabtree did all he could to help the Niners win a title, finishing the postseason with 20 catches for 285 yards and three touchdowns, one of them coming in the Super Bowl.
