Chicago Bears All-Pro linebacker Brian Urlacher has announced his retirement from football via his official Twitter account.
Urlacher, who spent all 13 of his seasons with the Bears, simply tweeted: “It was an honor to play my entire career for the Chicago Bears.”
Urlacher became a free agent at the end of the season after several weeks of intense negotiations the two sides revealed they were not able to come to an agreement and would be parting ways. ESPN reported that the Minnesota Vikings and perhaps even the Denver Broncos were interested in meeting with Urlacher, but none of those developments ever occurred.
After a career where he won Rookie of the Year, was selected to eight Pro Bowls and was Named NFL Defensive Player in 2005, Urlacher is thought to be a surefire Hall of Famer. His fearless style also long endeared him to his teammates.
