Lauren Hill Retires, Named Honorary Coach As Brain Cancer Forces The End of Her Playing Career [VIDEO]

Lauren Hill's brief but oh-so-memorable college basketball career has come to an end, the 19-year-old's family announced Wednesday.

The Mt. St. Joseph freshman is battling an inoperable brain tumor that has doctor's predicting she won't live to see 2015. Nevertheless, she's become one of the most inspiring and life-affirming stories in sports this year, fulfilling her dream of becoming a college athlete. Despite having imperfect vision as the disease wore on, Hill still managed to score for the Fighting Saints in multiple games this season.

Unfortunately, that chapter of Hill's life is now at a close. Already in hospice care, Lauren's family posted a message to Facebook explaining her situation.

With her playing days behind her, Mt. St. Joseph announced they were making Lauren an honorary coach -- yet another nice moment in an otherwise tragic story.
