Justin Verlander Uber Charge: Millionaire Pitcher Outraged By $40 Fare [Instagram PHOTO]

Sports fans always enjoy it when they find out that their heroes act just like regular people off the field, but that may not be the case for Justin Verlander. The Detroit Tigers starter recently took to social media to express his displeasure over a fare charge after a recent Uber ride.

Wade Miley Traded Because Of His Eating Habits?

Uber is one of many car services that are popping up around the country that provide a convenient alternative to conventional taxi services for travelers in an unfamliar city or for bar-goers that are wisely choosing not to drink and drive. Verlander recently took a ride with Uber, and he came away less than pleased with the experience.

Surge pricing is something that Uber warns users about, although many of them are still taken by surprise when they see higher-than-expected charges. Essentially, the service has many more people requesting rides than they can provide, so at busier times like weekends and holidays, they attach a multiplier to their rates.

Verlander was apparently the victim of one such increased rate, and despite being earning a base salary of $20 million in 2014 and having a guaranteed contract that will pay him nearly $150 million over the next six years, he decided that a $40 ride was unreasonable.
