The domestic violence case of Los Angeles Kings defenseman Slava Voynov continues to twist and turn, as his assaulted wife Marta Varlamova reportedly assumed blame for the incident that left her bloodied in October.
According to TMZ, Varlamova wrote a letter to the Los Angeles district attorney in which she took responsibility for Voynov assaulting her. In the letter Varlamova said she instigated an argument with him, then kept it going when they were at home as Voynov tried to go to sleep.

She said she squeezed his shoulders and said "No, I want to talk more." When she wouldn't stop she said Voynov then pushed her, and she hit her head on a flat screen TV, opening a gash that required eight stitches.
"I started yelling because it hurt quite a bit and I was very worried about whether I was going to need stitches and worried about how it would look," she wrote.
Voynov is now facing a felony charge of domestic violence after a hearing on Monday in which scary details that contradict some of Varlamova's writing were released. According to tweets from reporters inside the courthouse Voynov reportedly punched her, choked her three times and kicked her several more times. The prosecution also said there is evidence of prior violent incidents.
Police on the scene told the court that Varlamova herself had described Voynov's actions as such, while Varlamova is saying her words were misconstrued. Her first language is Russian, and she says the responding officers misunderstood her. She also claims that she "repeatedly" told the police that she wasn't afraid of Voynov, and that he did not try to kill her.
