Seahawks Quarterback Arrested: Josh Portis Arrested on Suspicion of DUI on Cinco de Mayo; His Agent Refutes Story

Seattle Seahawks backup quarterback Josh Portis will be arraigned next week on charges stemming from an arrest on May 5 on suspicion of drunken driving, an arrest his agent tweeted never happened.

A Washington State Patrol trooper pulled over Portis on the express lanes of the Interstate 90 floating bridge, the Seattle Post Intelligencer reported. The trooper clocked Range Rover Portis was driving at 80 miles per hour in a 60-mph zone, according to a police report.

The trooper approached the driver-side window and “a strong odor of intoxicants (was) coming from the vehicle,” the police report said, and Portis had “watery bloodshot eyes.”

Portis denied that he had been drinking. When the trooper asked Portis to get out of the car, a female passenger “stated Portis was a Seahawk player, and he did not have to get out of the car,” the trooper wrote in the report.

The quarterback allegedly admitted that he had some tequila at a Cinco de Mayo function at Alki Beach in Seattle.

““I asked Portis why he lied to me at the roadside about his alcohol consumption and he stated he was nervous,” the trooper reported.

However, JR Rickert, Portis’ agent, got on Twitter Monday and announced that the quarterback was never arrested.

“Want to clarify a story that is out there on our client #Seahawks QB Josh Portis: he was NOT arrested at all for anything," Rickert wrote. "[Portis] was pulled over for speeding and passed every sobriety test ... story of an arrest is completely false.”

According to the police report, Portis took two breathalyzer tests and registered blood alcohol content levels of .092 and .078. The legal limit in the state of Washington is .08.

The 25-year-old Portis will appear May 28 at the Redmond Courthouse for arraignment. Seattlepi.com did not publish the name of the passenger, who was not charged with any crime.

Portis is currently listed third on the Seahawks' depth chart at quarterback behind Russell Wilson and Brady Quinn. Jerrod Johnson is also on the roster.
