WWE Rumors: Alberto Del Rio Contacted By Bellator MMA After CM Punk Joins UFC [VIDEO]

Former WWE Superstar Alberto Del Rio has reportedly been contacted by Bellator MMA as the company kicked the tires to see if he'd be willing to jump to the mixed martial arts world.

CM Punk Says He 'Absolutely' Doesn't Want a WrestleMania Main Event Match Anymore

According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Bellator MMA contacted Del Rio after losing out to UFC on the CM Punk sweepstakes. Punk announced at UFC 181 that he will be a part of UFC going forward and that he will have a fight within six or seven months.

Per the report, there is no word on what happened between Del Rio and Bellator or if there is any interest from Del Rio in entering the MMA realm.

Undertaker vs. Bray Wyatt Rumored For WrestleMania 31

Del Rio was released by the WWE on Aug. 7 for slapping a social media worker who allegedly passed a racist comment about him by saying that it was Del Rio's job to clean off his plate in catering behind the former WWE Superstar's back.

Del Rio recently reached an agreement with the WWE to complete his departure from the company that saw his no-compete clause lifted in exchange for him not painting the WWE in a racist light following the situation that led to his departure.

Del Rio joined AAA and recently said that he is going to wrestle for TNA next year, but the organization -- which is preparing to launch Impact Wrestling on its new network home Destination America next month -- has stayed distant from the rumor.

The former WWE and World Heavyweight Champion is slated to begin working for Ring of Honor next month as well.

Del Rio won the AAA World Heavyweight Championship this past Sunday when he defeated El Texano to capture the gold.

There was some ugliness between the WWE and Del Rio after his departure and Del Rio appeared in a vignette that aired on AAA's TripleMania XXII event on Aug. 17, which bothered the company at the time before they worked out a deal.

The AAA show aired on the same night as WWE's SummerSlam, and Del Rio -- calling himself El Patron -- said he would be coming to AAA very soon. He is now a fixture in the promotion.

While Del Rio has appeared in AAA and will soon start working for ROH, an appearance at Bellator MMA may not happen despite the company contacting him.
