New York Jets Rumors: Geno Smith Believes He Is A 'Pro Bowl-Caliber Quarterback' [VIDEO]

Call off the search, because we've officially found the most ridiculous NFL quote of the 2014 season.

At 2-11, the New York Jets sit in the basement of the AFC. One of the foremost reasons for the team's disappointing performance is consistently shoddy play at the quarterback position. The team harbored big expectations for second-year man Geno Smith, but Smith regressed badly after a strong finish to his rookie year. He's turned the ball over 15 times in 11 games, and was benched mid-season for the veteran Michael Vick.

Despite his poor play, Smith is exuding nothing but confidence entering Sunday's game versus the Tennessee Titans.

“I’ve shown flashes of being a Pro Bowl-caliber quarterback, but what we’re looking for here is consistency. The best teams have consistent quarterback play and I realize that and that’s truly what I want to show to the fans and everyone outside the building,” Geno said in remarks to Newsday. Smith added that he still has the "utmost" confidence in his ability to be a starting quarterback on the pro level.

Whether he will get another shot to start in the NFL remains to be seen, but if he does, Smith will almost certainly be doing it somewhere other than the Meadowlands. The Jets are expected to pursue a quarterback in the coming year's draft, be in Oregon's Marcus Mariota or Florida State's Jameis Winston.
