Former NFL running back recently spoke out about the shootings in Ferguson and New York City and the subsequent fallout. He also took the time to respond to Mike Ditka's recent criticism of the St. Louis Rams players for their "hands up, don't shoot" gesture coming out of the tunnel before a game.

Ditka was the coach of the New Orleans Saints when Williams came into the NFL out of Texas, and he famously traded the Saints entire draft just to move up to take Williams. According to media reports, Williams wanted people to understand that Ditka is not a racist, which is a claim that many made on social media after his comments.
Williams claims that he knows for a fact that Ditka is not racist, but he also thinks it might just be an issue that Ditka cannot fully grasp because of the fact that he is white. "He's a white guy," said Williams. "White people don't relate to police brutality."
Williams goes on to say that he knows what it feels like to be racially profiled by law enforcement and adds that it even happened to him while he was at Texas, where he was arguably the most well-known college football player in the country.
"I was arrested for failing to provide identification when I was at Texas, I told them my name was 'Ricky' when my lD said 'Errick.' This when I was the best player in college football."
He went on to say that he thinks many white people inadvertently make racist comments, and that they may not even realize that their comments are offensive.
"Put a video camera on most white people all day long, you're going to hear something that black people would consider to be racist. Whether they mean it or not," he said.
Williams won the Heisman Trophy during his time at Texas, and he went on to become a Pro Bowler and rush for over 10,000 yards in his NFL career. He also created media buzz constantly for his refusal to quit smoking weed, his unexpected retirement, and numerous other personality quirks.
