Former NFL star Warrick Dunn has presented an Atlanta woman and her three small children their first home through his “Home for the Holidays” charity. Kimberly Kindel and her family were pleasantly surprised this past Mother’s Day when Dunn gifted them with the fully-furnished home and $5,000 to help with the down payment. In memory of his mother, Dunn has been helping single parents get into their first homes since 1997. Atlanta Habitat for Humanity and Aaron’s Inc. partnered with him in the Kindel family presentation. Dunn was just 18-years-old when he mother was shot and killed in the line of duty. Betty Smothers was a member of the Baton Rogue, La. Police Department. “Losing my mom at that early age, I knew what her dream was, and to be able to share this moment with another single parent who’s providing, and putting her family in a position to be successful long-term for me is--- I can’t truly describe the emotions,” he told Fox 5 News Atlanta.
Dunn added that all his charity work now serves as therapy for him in preserving his mother’s memory. Dunn played 12 NFL seasons for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Atlanta Falcons. He is one of only 10 running backs 5’11” or under to rush for more than 10,000 career yards.
