Colin Kaepernick "Elite" Controversy: 49ers Offensive Coordinator Lauds His Play "At Times" [VIDEO]

Colin Kaepernick's offensive coordinator with the San Francisco 49ers announced that his quarterback is playing better than he ever has been.

At times.

Colin Kaepernick believes Jim Harbaugh will return to the San Francisco 49ers in 2015

Forty-Niners offensive coordinator Greg Roman told csnbayarea.com that the fourth-year quarterback has improved with his progression reads and has made clutch throws, citing last week's game-winning drive against the Washington Redskins, including a 29-yard pass to wide receiver Anquan Boldin that was the key play in the touchdown drive.

But Roman still added a qualifier that indicates Kaepernick has room for improvement.

Jim Harbaugh finally uses term "great" to describe quarterback Colin Kaepernick

"I think at times he's playing better than he's ever played, without question," Roman said to csnbayarea.com. "I think there is a play here and a play there that he'd like to have back. But I think he's commanding the offense extremely well.

"And I definitely think he's moving through his progressions in a good way. He's making some clutch throws, too."

Jim Harbaugh initially refused to engage in a conversation last week about what Kaepernick needed to do to become an elite quarterback in the league, but acknowledged after the 49ers' 17-13 victory that Kaepernick is "great."

Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, whose team plays the 49ers on Thanksgiving, also praised Kaepernick for his development this season, also choosing the adjective "great" over "elite."

"I think it's been obvious to watch him become a front-line quarterback in the NFL," Carroll said, according to 49ers.com. "We've watched him grow right from the time that they first started him. He's always been an impact player. He's always been a dynamic athlete on the field and now he's moved right into the leader of their offense and you have to deal with him at every turn as a thrower and a runner, a playmaker. He's been very consistent. I think he's playing great football."
