Philadelphia Eagles Sign Felix Jones: Cowboys RB Jumps To NFC East Rival

Former Dallas Cowboys running back Felix Jones signed a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday, the team announced. Jones was a 2008 first-round draft choice out of Arkansas who spent the first five years of his career with the Cowboys.

The free agent running back had visited with the Eagles and first-year coach Chip Kelly last week before working out for the New England Patriots. Jones, 26, started seven games last season while playing in all 16, finishing with 402 yards on 111 carries for a 3.6 average. He had three rushing touchdowns with 25 receptions for 262 yards and two receiving touchdowns.

Jones has a career total of 2,728 yards and 11 touchdowns in 64 games played over the course of five seasons. He will join a running back depth chart that is led by LeSean McCoy, followed by Bryce Brown.

McCoy was limited to 840 yards last season after rushing for a career-high 1,309 yards in 2011. He missed four games late in the season with concussion symptoms.

Brown emerged as a solid replacement following McCoy's injury. He rushed for 564 yards and four touchdowns on 115 carries, although he did fumble four times.

Brown was acquired as an undrafted free agent after a rocky collegiate career. The former Rivals.com No.1 prospect of 2009 decommitted from Miami and joined Tennessee for his freshman season.

Brown rushed for 460 yards and three touchdowns on 101 carries for the Vols as the team's No.2 running back. He opted to transfer to hometown Kansas State, having to sit out an entire season due to NCAA rules.

While at Kansas State, Brown had only three attempts and 16 total yards rushing as a redshirt sophomore before entering the NFL Draft. Philadelphia signed Brown after he went undrafted in the 2012 NFL Draft.
