Ever since the University of Florida announced that head coach Will Muschamp would not be returning to that position in 2015, the college footbal landscape has been absolutely buzzing with speculation about who is going to replace him. It's hard not to understand why.
The Gators' job is one of the most appetizing, potentially lucrative gigs in the sport. The team's fallen on relatively lean times during Muschamp's tenure, but the right candidate can certainly come in and reestablish that program as a national power in a short time.
At first speculation centered on coaches with ties to the program, like Steve Spurrier, Dan Mullen, even Mike Shanahan. However, those three and a few other high profiles names were quickly ruled out, either by the UF athletics program or the coaches themselves.
Florida Head Coaching Decision Expected By Christmas?
Now, Las Vegas is getting in on the fun. One book-making site by the name of Bovda actually laid odds on what candidates they think are the favorites to land in Gainsville, and so far Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy is the tentative favorite, at 4-1.
Gundy would certainly fit one key criteria for Florida fans: the program is said to be searching for a high-octane offensive mind to replace a coach whose tenure was defined by offensive inefficiencies. Gundy is famous for nothing at Oklahoma State if not his explosive offenses.
Gundy for his part is playing loyal to Stillwater. "I don't have any interest in talking about other jobs," he said this week, per Cowboys beat reporter Kyle Frederickson.
