Andrew Wiggins College: Prep Star Set To Pick A School Early This Week

After an overly exhaustive process, top-rated high school basketball recruit Andrew Wiggins is expected to name his college choice as early this week.

Robert Fulford, Wiggins’ high school coach at Huntington (W.Va.) Prep, tweeted the 2013 high school All-American and American Family Insurance All-USA Player of the Year, will make his announcement as early as Tuesday. Later on Facebook, even Fulford admitted “I don’t know where Wiggins is going.”

The 6-8, 250 pound forward is rated as the consensus top player among ESPN top 150 ratings. The Canadian-born son of former NBA veteran Mitchell Wiggins' final four choices are thought to be three perennial powers Kentucky, North Carolina, Kansas and Florida State, where both of Wiggins’ parents are  former star athletes. Wiggins’ high school teammate Xavier Rathan-Mayes has also signed to play at FSU.

No matter where he lands, Wiggins is expected to remain for just one season before declaring for the NBA Draft. Just last month, he again distinguished himself by starring in three high-profile all-star showcases. Wiggins’ whirlwind tour began in April in Chicago at the McDonald’s All-America Game, from there it was on to Brooklyn and the Jordan Classic. He finished the month in Oregon at the Nike Hoops Summit.

After seemingly having his every move tracked over the last several weeks, Wiggins’ announcement will come with little fanfare. He simply plans to send a fax to the school of his choice.
