UNLV star forward and projected NBA lottery-pick Anthony Bennett is expected to be out of action up to four months after having rotator cuff surgery on his left shoulder.
Details of how Bennett sustained the injury remain sketchy, but according to ESPN’s Chad Ford Bennett is expected to be sidelined through upcoming NBA pre-draft workouts, the NBA draft combine and summer league play.
Most draft analyst rate Bennett as a lottery selection and Ford ranks him as the No.4 overall selection on ESPN’s Big Board of the projected top-10 picks. ESPN also reported two NBA general managers predicted the setback will do little to affect Bennett’s draft status.
Nonetheless, the six feet, eight inch strongman joins Maryland center Alex Len and Kentucky post man Nerlens Noel as projected top picks who figure to be far from ready to play come draft night. Len is expected to be out from four to six weeks following ankle surgery and Noel remains sidelined by an ACL tear he suffered back in January.
