Vinny Testaverde Hall of Fame: Former Miami and NFL QB Elected To College Football Hall of Fame

Former Miami Hurricanes quarterback Vinny Testaverde will be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as part of its 2013 class, a National Football Foundation representative announced Monday on ESPN's "College Football Live." Testaverde was a 23-3 starter for the Hurricanes and won the Heisman Trophy during his senior season in 1986, while being voted a unanimous first-team All-American.

"It's pretty exciting to get the call," Testaverde told ESPN of hearing the news of his future induction. "For them to tell me I'm inducted into the 2013 College Football Hall of Fame is [great great] great news."

Testaverde led Miami to three straight bowl games, and finished his collegiate career with 6,000-plus passing yards and 48 touchdown passes. Testaverde also won the Davey O'Brien, Walter Camp and Maxwell Awards in 1986.

Testaverde was selected No. 1 overall by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 1987 NFL Draft and played professionally for 21 years. During his NFL career, Testaverde was selected to the Pro Bowl twice and served as a member six teams: the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cleveland Browns/Baltimore Ravens, New York Jets, Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots and Carolina Panthers.

Testaverde finished his NFL career with 46,233 yards, 275 touchdowns, 267 interceptions and a 75.0 passer rating. The New York Jets retired his No. 16 jersey for his 1998-2003 and 2005 tenure with the franchise.

While a member of the New England Patriots, Testaverde set the record for the most consecutive seasons with at least one touchdown pass in 2006. He currently ranks in the top 10 in NFL history in four major passing categories: passing yards (7th), passing touchdowns (10th), passes attempted (7th- 6701) and passes completed (ninth- 3787).

"Congrats to one of the greatest #Canes of all-time, QB Vinny Testaverde, who will be inducted into College Football Hall of Fame," tweeted current Hurricanes coach Al Golden.

The rest of the 2013 Hall of Fame class will be announced Tuesday. The class will include a total of 12 players and two coaches. The induction ceremony will occur Dec. 10 in New York City.
