Chris Paul: L.A. Clips Star Chris Paul Expected To Re-sign After Poor Finish

Despite their disappointing first-round playoff ouster, the Los Angeles Clippers remain confident they will be able to re-sign star point guard Chris Paul.

Paul is expected to be one of the most sought after players available in this year’s free agent pool when he becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1. According to ESPN, if he were to re-sign with the Clips that will make him eligible for a maximum five-year, $108 million contract, some $28 million more than any competing team could offer him on a four-year deal.

All the while, the Clippers have been steadfast and resolute in expressing their interest. “The No. 1 priority for us right now has to be re-signing our star player, Chris Paul,” said Clippers vice president of basketball operations Gary Sacks.  “That’s our goal, that’s what we want to do. We feel this organization is in a position to move forward with that goal in mind. “It’s always difficult, it’s never easy, but we feel confident we can be successful.”

Complicating matters all the more is the Clips’ less than stellar finish. L.A. was ousted by Memphis in six games earlier this month after opening the series with back to back wins.
