The No. 18 Oklahoma Sooners kick off the first slate of ranked games on Saturday as they look to get back in the win column against the Iowa State Cyclones in Ames, Iowa.
Oklahoma is coming off a heartbreaking 31-30 loss to then-No.14 Kansas State Wildcats after kicker Michael Hunnicutt missed two short field goals and an extra point in the loss. Hunnicutt missed a 19-yard field goal with 3:53 remaining in the game to seal the Sooners fate.
Cornerback Zack Sanchez gave nothing but praise to the team and said that in the Big 12, anything can still happen.
"Anything can happen, especially the way the Big 12 is probably going to play out," Sanchez said. "There's a lot of games left, and it's going to be a crazy ending. We're playing to finish 10-2 and get the best bowl game we can. We just need to get back to being a dominant defense and just a dominant Oklahoma team.”
Iowa State has dropped all four of their Big 12 games thus far and are looking to steal a win from an Oklahoma team that could still be reeling from their last loss. The Cyclones will have two other opportunities to play spoiler in the Big 12 as they play No. 20 West Virginia and No. 7 TCU before the season’s end.
Oklahoma has handled the all-time series against Iowa State 71-5-2 and the Sooners are riding a 15-game winning streak against the Cyclones. The Cyclones last win against Oklahoma was in 1990.
