LeBron James $1 Million Donation: LeBron James Gives back, Makes $1 Million Donation To His Ohio High School

Reigning NBA MVP LeBron James has signed on to donate $1 million to St. Vincent-St. Mary High School to renovate the gym where he first began to master his craft.

School president Tom Carone said James’ donation will be used to erect new bleachers and locker rooms, purchase new scoreboards and install a new heating/cooling and lighting system in the soon-to-be renamed LeBron James Arena.

“We hope to have it done by the start of the season,” Carone told The Akron Beacon Journal.  “The attorneys are working out the details but we’ll be ready to go as soon as that’s complete.”

As the announcement was being made, a beaming Dru Joyce, who coached James at St. Mary’s proudly looked on.  “This is something LeBron has always wanted to do, but he wanted to wait until the timing was right,” he said of the ten-year span that’s lapsed since James last starred at the Ohio school. “He is excited about it; we are excited.”

The move comes as the fulfillment of a dream for James, who has always maintained that after he made it big he would look back to share with the community.

“I will be LeBron’s eyes while the process is going on,” said Joyce, who nonetheless stressed he will run everything by James.

Already agreed upon is how one wall will tell the story of James’ breeding and all the relationships that fostered his rise or as St. Mary’s public relations manager Patty Burdon attests “why he is so emotionally tied to us.”
