Despite his best efforts to play this weekend, Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III will not make his return Monday nighyt against the Dallas Cowboys.
According to NBC Washington, Griffin attempted to play this weekend for the Redskins and even took some first team reps at practice Wednesday, but coach Jay Gruden wanted to have his quarterback situation in place sooner rather than later.
Patriots, Buccaneers Discussing Trade for Vincent Jackson?
“RGIII took the first rep at Wednesday's practice, but the Redskins don't start their official practice week until Thursday this week because of Monday night's game. Coach Jay Gruden made Colt McCoy instead of RGIII available to the media, and said he wants to have a starter in place by Thursday afternoon, suggesting it will be McCoy. RGIII will shoot for a Week 9 return at Minnesota.”
Griffin is recovering from a dislocated ankle that he suffered earlier this season and lucked out when it was revealed that the dislocation didn't do serious damage to the ligaments in the area. Griffin is expected to play Week 9 for the Redskins, but Monday Night Football is officially out for the former No. 2 overall pick.
