Jose Mourinho: My Record Will Defend Me.

Jose Mourinho has defended himself against critics after crashing out of the UEFA Champions League with Real Madrid.

After Real Madrid president hired former Inter Milan and Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho to take over, Madrid went on to break records in the transfer market by paying 80 million pounds to Manchester United for the services of Cristiano Ronaldo.

They also spent 35 millions euros on Karim Benzema from Lyon and 50 million euros on Kaka' from AC Milan; anything less than a first place finish was said to be a faluire.

The 'special only' managed to win two Cups in his three years with Los Merengues, beating out Madrid's lifetime rival FC Barcelona both times to clentch the Copa Del Rey and La Liga championship.

The Portuguese coach, however, has defended himself saying that he has won so much in the past that he has unfair expectations on him, adding he should be judged by his achievements and not by his failure to win the Champions League with the club.

Mourinho is the only coach to win the League with four different teams in four different countries, doing so with FC Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid, and also one of the three coaches to win the Champions League with two different clubs, Porto and Inter. He also holds the record for the most points and goals scored in a Liga season.

"The record league title is mine; I have played in three Champions League semi-finals, which doesn't personally leave me satisfied. [But] it can't be easy because 18 coaches in 21 years [have only reached] five Champions League semi-finals at Real Madrid. The bad guy is Mourinho, with three in three seasons," said Mourinho.

Mourinho has been strongly linked with a move back to Chelsea this summer.
