Former mixed martial artist War Machine has maintained his innocence in the alleged assault of his ex-girlfriend and former adult film star Christy Mack, but it looks like he's beginning to realize there is no defense for his actions.

On Wednesday, lawyers for the 32-year-old War Machine, born Jonathan Koppenhaver, told a judge they are trying to make a plea deal with prosecutors. Koppenhaver was expected to appear in court for a preliminary hearing Friday, but the defense was granted a postponement so it could attempt to acquire "a plea deal to resolve the case ... without further litigation and pretrial proceedings," according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Mack, born Christine Mackinday, was expected to testify Friday along with Corey Thomas, the other alleged victim in the assault case. Chief Deputy District Attorney Jacqueline Bluth said, "The state is always willing to take into consideration any information the defense would like to present."

Koppenhaver is currently being held in the Clark County Detention Center without bail. It is possible that delaying the case is a tactic by the defense to "ice the victim" and get Mackinday and Thomas to forget the details of the attack, according to the Review-Journal. But Bluth said even if that was their strategy, it would fail.

"It is not going to work," Bluth said. "The victim is always going to be cooperative with us. Both victims in this case want to get this process going."

Koppenhaver faces 32 felony counts, including two counts of attempted murder, and plead not guilty at his first court appearance in September. He is accused of attacking Mackinday and Thomas in her Las Vegas home on Aug. 8. The alleged assault left Mackinday with multiple injuries including a lacerated liver, 18 broken bones and two missing teeth.
