Two clubs in the Western Conference of MLS will do battle today in a league match between the Seattle Sounders and Vancouver Whitecaps. Seattle Sounders head coach Sigi Schmid had this to offer ahead fo today's league encounter (via MLS's official website): "[The Supporters' Shield] does say who was the best team throughout the season. The MLS Cup, no matter how you want to cut it or slice it, is still a situation of who plays well as the end. There's been a lot of times where [lower seeded teams] have won the championship because they hit a good streak at the end."
"The Supporters' Shield is reflective of a body of work over 34 games," he added. "So for me, yeah, it does have some meaning."
Tactical Preview
Player to Watch: Vancouver Whitecaps center-back Kendall Waston has solidified the club's defense since joining from Saprissa during the summer transfer window. The 26-year-old is averaging the most clearances per match in MLS at 10.3.
