Johnny Manziel had to deal with his fair share of controversy when he played for Texas A&M, so he's familiar with Georgia running back Todd Gurley's situation.

Gurley was suspended indefinitely for reportedly accepting money in exchange for autographs. Manziel, who is now the backup quarterback for the Cleveland Browns, was suspended for half a game last season for a similar violation. "Johnny Football" took to Twitter on Friday to voice his support for Gurley:

While Georgia did not reveal the alleged violation, ESPN reported that Gurley was given money for autographs, memorabilia and the use of his likeness. The report said he was seeking between $8 and $25 per signature.

"I'm obviously very disappointed," Georgia coach Mark Richt said in a statement. "The important thing for our team is to turn all our attention toward preparation for Missouri."

Gurley, a junior, established himself as a candidate for the Heisman Trophy by rushing for 773 yards and eight touchdowns in the first five games for the Bulldogs, who are 4-1 and 2-1 in the SEC. He also has 11 receptions and a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown on the season. Gurley set a school record with 293 all-purpose yards in Georgia's season-opening win over Clemson.

Gurley leads the SEC with 154.6 rush yards per game and ranks second nationally with an average of 194.6 all-purpose yards. With 3,147 career rushing yards, he needed just 86 more to pass Garrison Hearst for second on Georgia's all-time list.
