Despite previous reports that TNA made a play for former WWE Superstar CM Punk and wanted to offer him the top spot in their company, but the organization has since denied these claims.
Rumors surfaced that TNA officials reached out to Punk, whose real name is Phil Brooks, through one of his friends and made a major offer for him to come to TNA as the No. 1 face of the company in a deal that would have seen him make similar money to what wrestling legend Hulk Hogan made during his stint with TNA.
The company has since denied the rumors that it reached out to Punk amid reports that they thought that bringing in Punk could net them a better chance at a good television deal once Spike TV drops Impact Wrestling from its schedule in 2015.
"No offer was made, officially or via an intermediary - no truth to that rumor," a source within TNA told The Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
Punk walked out on the WWE back in January and has been "retired" from wrestling ever since, and reports surfaced that he had no interest in TNA's offer, though it now seems that the offer may not have ever been made.
There were reports on Reddit that Punk was backstage at an Ohio Valley Wrestling event last weekend to support a friend, and the source confirmed to the newsletter that Punk was in fact at the show, but he was never in the locker room.
According to the report, Punk arrived to the event earlier in the day and went straight to OVW owner Danny Davis' office, unseen by fans.
A Reddit user, 502photo, who claims to work for OVW, said that Punk was at the event, but the rumors that surfaced earlier this week about wrestlers being told to leave Punk alone were untrue.
"As some of you may know (through comments) I work for OVW in production," the user wrote, according to Wrestlingheadlines.com. "Yes Punk was at the Davis Arean for the SNS, but no one was told by the Owner Danny Davis or any higher ups not to bother him. Not bothering him was just done out of respect if he wanted to talk he would have come out of the office, but alas he did not. Perhaps he didn't want it getting out cause it would cause a huge fuss. O well Please Watch OVW At OVWrestling.com."
Punk has been out of professional wrestling since he walked out on the WWE back in January over frustration due to the way his character was being used and also because he was burned out from the company's rigorous traveling schedule.
Punk has made many outside appearances since his departure, including at the AP Music Awards where he said he was "never ever" returning to the squared circle.
Punk's contract with the WWE officially expired in July and things were said to be worse than ever between the two sides and they probably got even worse when Punk's lawyers sent a 22-page letter to the WWE over royalties linked to the use of his likeness for the WWE 2K15 video game.
Punk married WWE Diva AJ Lee in June, and she has continued to work for the company while it appears he won't return.
While Punk joining TNA would be groundbreaking, it appears as though the company did not make a play for the "Best in the World."
